A Space Where Your Teen
Doesn't Have to
Explain Everything

What we hear most
When your teen says "I'm fine" - but you know they're not
These are the words we hear most from teens before their first session. If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place.
I can't explain why I feel this way. I just do.
At home I'm one person. At school, another. I don't know who I actually am.
Everyone's watching my grades like that's all I am. I'm exhausted.
My parents don't get it. They think I should just push through.
I start everything and finish nothing. I feel lazy but I'm trying so hard.
I'm surrounded by people but I feel completely alone.
What we work on
Teen Counselling Services in Ontario
Each service is tailored for the unique challenges teens face - from academic burnout to cultural identity and family conflict.

Practical tools to quiet racing thoughts, manage worry, and build resilience — without dismissing the pressure your teen is genuinely under.

For teens navigating two cultures at once — at home and at school. Therapy helps them find themselves without having to choose between who they are and where they belong.

When grades become the whole identity, the weight becomes unbearable. Therapy builds sustainable confidence — not just performance under pressure.

For teens carrying family honour and unspoken expectations. A space to feel without guilt, and understand without having to choose sides.
What it is
What is teen counselling?
Teen counselling is a form of psychotherapy designed specifically for the emotional and psychological challenges of adolescence. It's a confidential space - separate from parents, school, and community - where a teenager can speak freely without editing themselves.
At Hap Therapy Care, online teen counselling addresses anxiety, academic stress, identity, family conflict, ADHD, and the particular weight carried by South Asian and Tamil teens navigating two cultures at once.
Sessions are virtual, available province-wide, and conducted in Tamil, English, or both.
Teen counselling helps with:
- Anxiety & emotional overwhelm
- Academic stress & burnout
- Identity & cultural conflict
- Family pressure & expectations
- ADHD & focus challenges
- Loneliness & social isolation

The cultural layer
There's a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from living between two worlds. For South Asian and Tamil teens, therapy isn't just about anxiety or grades - it's about carrying expectations that were never openly discussed.
- The pressure to excel academically as a form of family honour
- Community stigma that makes admitting difficulty feel shameful
- Not being "allowed" to struggle - because others sacrificed more
- Being the child of immigrants - carrying their dreams and your own
- Feeling caught between Canadian identity and South Asian heritage
- Speaking Tamil at home, English at school - code-switching all day
- Family dynamics that don't translate to a Western therapist
- Parents who love you but don't always know how to hear you
"With Hareesma, your teen won't need to explain their whole background before they can talk about what's actually happening."

About Hareesma

Hareesma Amutha Venkatesan
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) · CRPO #17974
Hareesma is a Tamil-speaking psychotherapist from India who has lived the experience of immigration, identity conflict, and navigating two cultures - the very things many of her teen clients are working through now. She holds an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and is registered with the CRPO.
She works with South Asian teens, adults, and mothers across Ontario, and is one of a very small number of CRPO-registered Tamil-speaking therapists in the province. With Hareesma, your teen won't spend the first three sessions explaining their background -she already understands the context.
Common questions
FAQs - Teen Counselling in Ontario
How do I know if my teen needs counselling?
If your teen has been persistently withdrawn, anxious, or struggling emotionally for more than 2-3 weeks, it’s worth reaching out. You don’t need to wait for a crisis. Signs include changes in sleep, appetite, grades, or social withdrawal.
What age range does Hap Therapy Care see for teen counselling?
Hap Therapy Care offers counselling for teenagers aged 13-19 across Ontario. All sessions are fully virtual – available by phone or video from anywhere in the province.
Is online counselling effective for teenagers?
Yes. Research consistently shows online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for teens – and many teenagers find virtual sessions easier to open up in. Being in their own space, without the anxiety of a waiting room, often lowers the barrier to honest conversation.
Can my teen attend sessions in Tamil?
Yes. Hareesma is one of very few CRPO-registered Tamil-speaking psychotherapists in Ontario. Sessions are available in Tamil, English, or a mix of both – whichever feels most natural to your teen.
Do parents attend the teen counselling sessions?
Sessions are teen-focused and confidential. Hareesma may occasionally suggest a brief parent check-in – always with the teen’s consent. Parents receive general progress updates without breaking confidentiality.
How much does teen counselling cost in Ontario?
Individual 50-minute sessions are $130 CAD. Extended 80-minute sessions are $210 CAD. A free 15-minute consultation is available before committing. Reduced-rate spots may be available – email hareesma@haptherapycare.com. Many extended health benefit plans also cover registered psychotherapy.
Is teen counselling confidential?
Yes. All sessions are strictly confidential under PHIPA. Nothing is shared with schools, teachers, extended family, or community. The only legal exception is immediate risk of serious harm – explained before sessions begin.
Do I need a referral for teen counselling in Ontario?
No referral is needed. You can book directly through Hap Therapy Care’s online portal. Sessions available across all of Ontario – evenings and Saturdays. No waitlist.
